Just last week I was in Rome with my dad, spending four days visiting museums, ruins, basilicas, and of course eating vegan food. We discovered the most amazing vegan Italian food I have ever had and a tiramisu that was to-die-for. Although I wouldn’t die for it. Then I could never eat it again, and that would be a tragedy. We also ate beautiful, colourful vegan burgers and tried lots of vegan spreads, patês and pasta sauces at Campo de Fioro. And of course I managed to sneak in some vegan gelato – both from a raw, sugar free chocolate shop and a gelateria with 150 different ice cream flavours!
Yes, I love the Percy Jackson and Gods of Olympus series.

This restaurant has the best vegan food I have ever had, including an amazing vegan carbonara, which unfortunately I demolished before I had time to take a picture. We went there first for lunch on our third day in Rome and had the gnocchi, artichoke pasta and tiramisu for dessert. Then we spoke with the daughter of the family who runs the restaurant, and she said half of her family is vegan, explaining the extensive vegan menu. She also advised us to book a table if we were coming back for dinner sometime, so we booked it right then and there for the very same evening. When we eventually returned after a long walk in the afternoon sun in the Borghese Park, I ordered the vegan pistachio pesto pasta, and my dad the vegan carbonara. We also realized that this time it would maybe be better to get a tiramisu each, as one to share was not enough. Then we came back for lunch the day after, before taking the train to the airport. This time I had the vegan carbonara, and my dad ordered the non-vegan carbonara. As a non-vegan, he was astonished to discover that the vegan and non-vegan carbonaras tasted exactly the same! I would highly recommend this restaurant, and if you can, order the vegan carbonara and vegan tiramisu!
Flower Burger: https://www.flowerburger.co.uk/
My dad and I ordered a Flower Burger and a Cherry Bomb each with a side of baked potatoes, and asked them to cut the burgers in half, so that we could each try both. The people working there were friendly, and the place was surprizingly full. Even though there are few vegan restaurants in Rome, it seems the demand for plant based food is growing. Perhaps next time I go to Rome, there will be a bunch of new restaurants to try and blog about! My dad and I both loved the burgers, and i must admit it was nice with a big, juicy burger to bite into, even though I don’t miss the meat.
Lastly, the vegan gelato. This picture is from the place with 150 different ice cream flavours, called Della Palma, just a couple of blocks away from Piazza Navona. They had a few vegan flavours, including pistachio, chocolate orange, coconut, strawberry, and a few more. The refined sugar free, raw vegan chocolate shop is called Grezzo Raw Chocolate. I tried their pistachio ice cream, which was amazing. Definitely nice to drop by for a tiny dessert, but note that it’s a bit pricey.
So those were the vegan highlights of our trip to Rome! Let me know whether you’ve been to any of the restaurants and tried any amazing dishes in the comment section below! Also, if you have any questions about sightseeing, I shall do my very best to answer. See you soon!
