Nice Cream

“What is nice cream?” you may ask. Lemme tell you. Nice cream is ice cream made from frozen bananas and a tiny bit of oat milk, at least mine is:) And optionally a wide variety of add-ins for different flavours in case you’re feeling a little extra. Or simply not a huge fan of banana flavour. I personally identify with both statments, so I usually spice up the nice.

What’s cool about nice cream compared to, well… ice cream, is that you can make it in a food processor or blender without coconut oil, cream, added sugar or whatever other ingredients you feel kind of bad about eating. In addition, bananas are a great source of potassium, vitamin C and vitamin B6. The potassium keeps your heart healthy and blood pressure down and the vitamin C basically does the same thing as well as boost your immune system, strengthen your white blood cells and improve your memory. Frankly, the list of health benefits goes on, bananas are awesome. The vitamin B6 is not proven, but linked to reduced risk of depression, cancer and a bunch of other bad things.

Perhaps you’re wondering why I decided to make banana ice cream on a Tuesday? Well, why not? Honestly, I came home after a long day at school and needed to celebrate the fact that I’m done with all of my assessments this school year! Jealous? I bet. Anyways, I find sweets are a good way to celebrate stuff like that. So let’s make some nice cream!

Ingredients:

about 1/2 to 1 frozen, ripe bananas per person

1 tbsp of oat milk per frozen banana

Optional add-ins for flavour: 1 tbsp cocoa powder, chopped nuts, chopped chocolate (hell yeah), nut butter, 1/4 tsp liquorice root powder, berries (frozen or fresh), the list goes on – whatever you think works with banana really. Maybe try peanut butter and cocoa powder?

Method:

  1. freeze your bananas for several hours, preferably overnight.
  2. Get whatever flavour add-ins (if using) ready – the nice cream doesn’t stay frozen forever.
  3. Add the bananas and oat milk to your food processor or blender and mix until a smooth, nice-creamy consistency is formed.
  4. Next, put whatever flavours you’d like into the nice cream if using. And serve. If you find the instructions confusing, take a look at the photos below:)
Indeed, that is a reused IKEA gingerbread dough container. And I’m proud of it.
It’s finally summer in Oslo, and our Paeonia Anomala (Latin name) are blossoming <3

I made two different flavours this time; liquorice and chocolate. I didn’t take pictures of the liquorice as it didn’t look too different from the plain banana. The chocolate on the other hand…

For the chocolate one I added 1 tbsp of cocoa powder as well as 1 tsp almond butter, chopped hazelnuts and chopped dark chocolate. It was undoubtedly the best dinner I’ve had in a long time:) Enjoy this nice cream and enjoy the rest of your week! I’ll write again soon..
