Earlier this week, I was craving something chocolatey (never happened before). I rummaged the kitchen drawers and cabinets searching for something to satisfy my needs. Unfortunately, I didn’t really find anything that excited me, though I did find a ripe avocado. So.. avocado + creativeness + being really desperate for a chocolate dessert = avocado chocolate mousse. And here we are.
This recipe is incredibly easy, but it is important that your avocado(s) is (are) ripe. And we’ve all seen those memes about how long avocados are ripe, so if you’re serving it to other people, you might want to buy a few extra avocados just to make sure you have enough ripe ones.
This chocolate mousse is rich, silky smooth and quite chocolatey, so prepare for true happiness. Yes, I do believe happiness can be bought or made with chocolate flavour. Without further ado – let’s get to it!
Ingredients: for one portion – if making several, use about 1 small or 1/2 medium/large avocado per person
1 avocado
3 small, soft dates (or more for desired sweetness) or 1 tbsp maple syrup in case you don’t have dates or your blender/food processor struggles with dates
1 large tbsp cocoa powder
0,5 dL or about 1/4 cup plant based milk (I use oat)
A pinch of salt
Toppings (optional): banana (is awesome), raspberries, grated chocolate or other desired fruits/berries/toppings.
Also optional: 1-2 tbsp chia seeds for an incredibly nutrient dense and high protein/fiber chocolate dessert/breakfast/snack.
Method:
- Add the avocado to a food processor or blender along with dates and process until well combined and free of date-lumps. You might need to stop the machine and scrape down green goo from the sides of the processor/blender with a spatula as you go.
- Add the cocoa powder and mix a tiny bit, then add the PB milk along with a pinch of salt. Use your spatula to make sure the stuff on the sides is included as well.
- Transfer to serving dishes, or a bowl to mix chia seeds in first (if using). Add your preferred toppings (or no toppings at all – it is rather delicious on its own) and serve. You can also leave it in the fridge for about an hour to cool down and become a little firmer. If you want it to last longer than that, you might want to mix in some citrus juice, although this will alter the flavour of the mousse a little. Therefore, I would recommend adding some freshly squeezed orange juice, as this only enhances the flavour.
- Enjoy! If you do make this recipe and think it’s awesome, do tell me either here on the blog in the comment section or on instagram at https://www.instagram.com/alexaj0310/. You can even post a nice little picture of it and hashtag me at #greenwolff;) Have a lovely Sunday evening!
